Did you know there are approximately 60 acu-points that run through the head and face, with most of them yang in nature. “Yang?” you say. Recall that the yang meridians (e.g., bladder, small and large intestines, et al) are about protection and defense which makes sense due to the amount of exposure this region literally ‘faces’ each day due to environmental stressors (both external and internal). Tension of the muscles in the face, neck and head show the effects of chronic protecting.
Emotions are naturally expressed via the face i n a natural way. Yes, there will be laugh lines!
However, when we emotionally protect our self and guard our feelings our face becomes armoured, stiff and even masked.
Other symptoms of facial/head tension include: eye strain, jaw tension, TMJ, toothaches, headaches, earaches and nasal issues.
Tension between the heart and mind often shows up in neck tension, inflexibility to turn and see other perspectives, or a ‘pain in the neck.’ Other symptoms can be sore throat (repressed anger), voice issues (laryngitis), and lack of assertiveness (not using our voice).
Benefits:
Since the facial acupressure uses points from all 6 yang meridians as well as the Governing (Du) and Conception (Ren) Vessels the session is a great way of working with a multitude of meridians in the body.
Immediate relaxation – a fantastic session for generalized stress using therapeutic touch.
Immediate physical muscle/stress release with visible effects (smoothing out tension lines) and relaxing muscles, adding to their resiliency.
Wish to address any of the above symptoms (e.g., TMJ, headaches).
Great to use after an emotional session – take a break and yet still do some work!
*** It especially benefits/relaxes the lower back/hips.
The full session runs a solid hour.
A shorter (20 min.) session is also available.
